About Sam

Sam Riddell [pronouns: she/her/they/them] is a media professional from Queens, New York. Her work often centers on race, gender, history, science and social justice. Trained in both documentary filmmaking and sketch & improvisational comedy, Sam has a penchant for telling stories about the human experience whilst injecting humor along the way. Her goal is to create socially impactful media that uplifts marginalized stories and inspires positive change. Sam has worked on projects for Crooked Media, Southern Poverty Law Center, TheGrio and The Queens Public Library. She is the lead producer of the award-winning science and Black culture podcast In Those Genes. Sam has won a number of awards and her work has been featured in outlets like the New York Times, Essence, The Guardian and Time Magazine. In her spare time she volunteers as the general coordinator of her local community garden and strategizes about how to build strong networks within NYC's solidarity economy.  When she’s not working or volunteering she’s playing tennis, pumping iron, or (slowly) learning to play the drums.
